Herrle’s is a family owned and operated farm located
just west of Waterloo, Ontario. Our farm has been in operation
since 1858, when Peter Herrle first settled here. Today, our
young children represent the 6th generation of Herrle’s
to call the fields of sweet corn, strawberries, peas, beans
and pumpkins their back yard playground!
Our
retail farming business began in 1964 when Howard and Elsie
Herrle began growing a few acres of sweet corn and selling
in from their garage. The Herrle name soon became known for
its fresh from the field sweet corn.
In 1988, we built our Farm Market to accommodate the growing
demand for fresh sweet corn, and to enable us to carry a greater
variety of fresh Ontario fruits and vegetables, preserves
and baking. At the same time we increased our field production
of peas, beans, cucumber, beets, spinach, and zucchini. With
the addition of squash, pumpkins, hay bales, wheat sheaves
and other decorative harvest items, our Market season was
extended until the end of October.
It
didn’t take long for the popularity of Our Bakery to
become known. Upon entering the Farm Market the aroma of freshly
baked pies, muffins, butter tarts, chelsea buns, cookies and
streusel breads greets our customers... We bake fresh daily!
At the Bakery counter we also offer freshly swirled frozen
yogurt cups and cones.
By 1995
we had “outgrown” our original building, and so
a beautiful post and beam addition was hand notched, pegged
and constructed by a team of local Mennonite craftsmen, bringing
our Market to its present size.
In 1996
we expanded our season to include strawberries, with a Pick
your Own Patch for customers wishing to foray into the fields,
or freshly picked berries for those enjoying the country atmosphere
and fresh products in our Farm Market.
With an
indoor train to delight youngsters, and an outdoor corn maze
and play area, a visit to Herrle’s is always a pleasurable
family experience.
Today
our Farm Market is brimming with fresh seasonal fruits and
vegetables, homemade jams and preserves, local Honey and Maple
Syrup, breads and baking, fruit juices, snack foods and decorative
wooden crafts.
The Herrle family, comprised of Howard and Elsie, Karen,
James and Michelle, Joanne and Trevor, invite you and your family to come
and enjoy our Farm Market, in its beautiful agricultural setting
that we are proud to refer to as home.
